We are beginning a series of profiles to introduce some of the volunteers who have put their time and energy into The Mustard Seed Cooperative Grocery. Enjoy this glimpse into our Co-op community!
Name: Sarah Kam
Action Team: Sourcing Action Team
What roles have you had in the development of The Mustard Seed?
-Developing the “value system” to which procurement decisions will be based upon
-Locating local suppliers for baking ingredients and goods
-Researching models for procurement
-Sifting through catalogues upon catalogues of potential suppliers
What drew you to The Mustard Seed, and why do you volunteer? Besides its clever name? I guess just to add another avenue for which food can bring people together. I volunteer to shape my future grocering experiences.
Day job: Mental Health Nurse
What element of The Mustard Seed are you most excited about? Its location! I can’t seem to pass a vacant building without imagining it retrofitted as a Mustard Seed Storefront.
What is your favourite local food? Black cherries and Brussels sprouts. Not necessarily together but I can be persuaded otherwise.
Why should people join the Co-op today? Getting a spring start will make it all the more likely that we can get this coop in full operation and thus reap the benefits of harvest season (a.k.a. black cherries from Puddicombe Estates).
