Celebrate Local Food Week with The Mustard Seed’s Grand Opening!


The Mustard Seed Co-op is celebrating our first spring season with an official Grand Opening on Saturday, June 7 from noon to 6 pm.

The Mustard Seed has been open for just four months and it’s amazing to see it already taking root in our community. We want to celebrate this success and thank everyone who has been involved. Whether you have been to the Co-op a dozen times or this is your first visit, come celebrate with us!

A short formal program and ribbon cutting will take place at 12:15pm, followed by an afternoon of music and food. The event is a fitting finale for Ontario’s first Local Food Week.

Local producers participating in the Grand Opening include: Boar & Chick Farm, Cake & Loaf Bakery, Barrie’s Asparagus, Shared Harvest Community Farm, Hero Coffee, Juice Matters, Nicklebrook Soda, VG Meats, Rudy’s Palettas, Mapleton’s Organic Ice Cream, Kozlik’s Mustard, Marci’s Bakery, Sweetness Pies, Blossom Bakery, and Sabores Latinos.  As well we will have partners on-site: Community CarShare and So-Bi bike share.

Live musical performances include some great Hamilton bands with co-op members including Terns (12:30pm), Lee Baby Sims (1:30pm), Peter Tigchelaar & Friends (2:30pm), Paul Hogeterp & Glenn MacDonald (3:30pm), and Basking Shark (4:30pm).

Please walk, bike or take public transit to the event if possible.  Off-site parking is available across the street at 505 York Blvd. courtesy of the Realtor’s Association of Hamilton-Burlington, or at Dundurn Castle.

The store will be open regular hours 8am-8pm during the Grand Opening celebrations. So bring your canvas bags!

Looking for Volunteers!

Organizing our biggest event yet takes a lot of volunteers. We are still looking for help on the day of the event to:

  • Help setting up on Saturday morning, 9am – noon (6 – 8 people still needed)
  • Help in the kid’s tent with activities or face painting, noon – 6pm (2 – 3 people still needed)
  • Help at the membership table, noon – 6pm (2 people still needed)
  • General help directing traffic & welcoming visitors, noon – 6pm  (2 people still needed)
  • Photographer (1 person needed from noon – 2pm)
